I’ve been contemplating a name change for a couple of years now, and I’ve decided to go ahead with it this year.  The original name of Tactical Weather LLC will remain valid for all business, but I will start using OceanMet as a dba (doing business as) in my day-to-day operations—as a division of Tactical Weather. Checks, wire transfers and such can be addressed to Tactical Weather or OceanMet—either name will work.  I will keep Tactical Weather LLC as my official company name for tax purposes and such, but will operate under OceanMet.

The original name of Tactical Weather was mostly aimed at sailing racers and record setters.  But rule changes have severely limited my participation in such adventures, so the name doesn’t reflect the majority of my work. Most of my forecasting now goes to superyachts, followed by special projects such as ocean rowing or sailing records.

I tried to register ‘OceanMet’ through the US Patent and Trade Office, but it was rejected as being too generic, since many ‘OceanMet’ references were found within the military and academic worlds.

But I do own the rights to oceanmet.com, oceanmet.eu, and oceanmet.co.uk, so I’m optimistic that there will be no problems.  In the worst case scenario, I’ll revert to Tactical Weather.  But “OceanMet” is easier to say than “Tactical Weather”, so I hope it will stick!

I also renewed my registered service mark of “Global Adventure Meteorology.”  That has no impact on my day-to-day operations—it’s just a nice description of what I do.

As part of the transition, I have changed my primary e-mail address to weather@oceanmet.com.

Please change your address book contact for me to show weather@oceanmet.com. I will continue to monitor mail@tacticalweather.com for several months, so we should be able to stay in contact either way, but I’d like to make the switch now.

Even if you make the change, please check your SPAM folder in case my messages get routed there.

Best regards,

Lee Bruce
